- Locate and mark all shut off switches and valves for electrical, heating and plumbing systems
- Test all electrical, heating, cooling and plumbing systems
- Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
- Repair handrails and stairs
- Repair/replace loose or worn stair treads
- Repair/replace damaged floors
- Repair/replace broken window panes, damaged thermopanes and screens
- Repair fireplace screens and glass doors
- Clear fire escape routes of clutter
- Replace security bars that do not open easily on windows and doors for a fast exit
